Home health pre-employment physical in New York

Continue the excellent work you are doing, and continue the kind treatment you give to patients like how I observed today.
—Mobile Health Patient

Mobile Health is proud to be a major provider for pre-employment physicals for home health agencies and their employees. In accordance to New York State’s Department of Health law 766.11 Personnel, there are very strict rules regarding the health of the employee. These rules were designed to protect both the patients and the provider from dangerous health risks, and ensure that the employee is able to fulfill all job responsibilities.

Generally, the pre-employment physical is broken down into 4 parts:

  • A physical exam to gather basic demographics of blood pressure, height, weight, etc.
  • A tuberculosis screen usually done as a PPD implant, or QuantiFERON blood test
    • If a tuberculosis screen comes back positive a chest x-ray is done to confirm results
  • Titers (or vaccines) for measles and rubella
  • A forensic toxicology urine drug test

Mobile Health is only a health screening provider and cannot make any hiring decisions or recommendations. Once the exam results are complete and submitted to the requesting home health agency, they are now charged with making such critical decisions. Other factors relating the the hiring decision include:

  • A criminal and professional background check
  • Checking the federal and state government’s exclusions list
  • Health assessed to ensure the employee is “free from a health impairment which is of potential risk to the patient or which might interfere with the performance of his/her work”
  • And of course, regular everyday HR considerations when making a hiring decision.

Employee health is important, and even so when the employee’s work environment involves vulnerable and sick patients. We use innovative medical processes and technology solutions to get more individuals screened faster and more accurate.
