The measles virus remains prominent in New York. According to the NYS Department of Health, ”the outbreak remains a serious public health concern.” The DOH has issued interim guidance to all healthcare providers and employers in their most recent letter (read the letter here).

Citing “increasing case counts and high risk for secondary exposures,” the guidance directed business and practitioners to review and verify that all personnel within the organization, including contract personnel:

  • Are up to date on vaccinations and immunizations;
  • Are free of any communicable disease; and
  • Adhere to infection control practices and standards to prevent avoidable disease transmission.

The state health department will take action against any organization that fails to adhere to these rules, it said.

Proof of Immunity

Also, the guidance reminded providers and employers to maintain a record of evidence of immunity from the measles virus for all employees. This requires a certificate of immunization against measles for all employees born on or after January 1,1957.

Mobile Health is available to help you review employee medical records, and to arrange any needed measles vaccinations. Easy online scheduling of vaccines and titers appointments is available. At this time, we urge you to make sure your employees are vaccinated against the measles virus. By working together, we can combat this outbreak of the measles virus and eliminate this serious public health concern.
